──── YOUR PATH TO CFMP®
From Candidate to Certified Professional
Earning the Certified Financial Management Professional (CFMP®) designation follows a structured certification process designed to establish professional knowledge, competence, practical capability, and ethical responsibility.
From meeting the initial requirements to maintaining the designation, each stage represents an important part of becoming and remaining a CFMP® professional.
──── THE CERTIFICATION JOURNEY
Five Steps to the CFMP® Designation
CFMP® addresses areas of financial management that influence organizational decisions, financial performance, resource allocation, and long-term value.
STEP 01 – MEET THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Begin by reviewing the requirements for CFMP® certification. Candidates must satisfy the applicable standards established by the Institute of Finance and Management (IFM) in the areas of education, professional experience, examination, and ethics.
Understanding these requirements before proceeding helps candidates determine their readiness for the certification process.
STEP 02 – COMPLETE THE CFMP® PROGRAM
Enroll in the Certified Financial Management Professional (CFMP®) Program and complete the required education component.
The program develops knowledge and professional competencies relevant to financial management practice and provides the educational foundation candidates need before proceeding to the certification examination.
STEP 03 – PASS THE CFMP® EXAMINATION
Upon completion of the education program, candidates must successfully pass the CFMP® certification examination.
The examination assesses the candidate’s understanding of the knowledge and competencies covered by the CFMP® program and serves as an important requirement for qualification.
STEP 04 – EARN THE CFMP® DESIGNATION
Candidates who successfully satisfy the applicable certification requirements may be awarded the Certified Financial Management Professional (CFMP®) designation.
Qualified individuals are then entitled to use the CFMP® professional designation in accordance with the policies and standards established by IFM.
STEP 05 – MAINTAIN YOUR CERTIFICATION
Professional development continues after certification. CFMP® professionals are expected to maintain the standards associated with the designation and remain current in their professional knowledge and practice.
Certification holders should comply with applicable certification maintenance requirements, continuing professional development expectations, and the ethical standards adopted by IFM.
